When I stopped using soap bars and moved to shower gels/body washes, I had to do the same for my kids. Due to various reasons, I was just drifting away from the bathing bars in the years prior to the big shift. Plus, the body washes seemed so much easier to use. Luckily, baby hampers come with bars and washes, so, once you try both, you can continue buying what you fancy the most. That is how I stuck to body washes for my babies, too. Now, though they aren’t babies anymore, they still use body washes as they have no clue how to use a soap bar except to wash their hands.
Pour warm water on your baby’s body.
Dispense a tiny quantity of baby wash on your damp palms and rub between them.
Rub gently onto the baby’s skin.
Rinse baby well with water.
Once done, wrap the baby in a towel.
Here are the 7 best baby & kids body wash brands we have tried and tested during the 9 years I’ve been a mother:
This brand, Mother Sparsh, was quite new to me but once I started using their products, they became one of my favourites. Their products have also become quite a hit with friends and family around, especially because the ingredients only come from plants, essential oils and herbal extracts; some of them being Chamomile extract, Olive oil and Coconut based cleansers. Mother Sparsh products have no allergens and chemicals like silicon, parabens, dyes, SLS/SLES and formaldehyde. We specifically love their baby laundry detergent, wet wipes, after bite turmeric balm and natural baby wash.
Their baby wash costs Rs 385/- for 200ml and is good for use due to the following reasons:
-Completely tear-free.
-The anti-inflammatory properties relieve dry and flaky skin, thereby making it apt for newborns with dry skin.
-The body wash consists of Calendula oil, Avocado oil, Chamomile oil and Grape seed oil which also contribute to treating various skin ailments, if any.
-The plant powered baby wash locks in the moisture that helps keep the baby’s skin healthy, making it soft and supple after a bath.
-Due to the use of natural elements, this baby wash is great for everyday use on your baby’s delicate skin. It is perfectly usable for washing your baby from day 1.
This is a well-known brand and you can buy their baby wash of 400ml for Rs 265/-. It is infused with the goodness of olive oil, almond oil, chickpea, fenugreek and green gram to gently clean the baby’s delicate skin. The khus grass keeps the skin cool and fresh. We have used this many times when smaller shops did not have the other body washes available. It has almost no fragrance and is free from parabens, phthalates & synthetic colours. This soap-free head-to-toe baby wash is ideal for newborns and infants up to 6 months of age.
earthBaby products are free from parabens, sulphates, artificial colours, preservatives or fragrances. Their products are all cruelty-free and certified by Ecocert as 100% Natural. earthBaby products include all edible ingredients which are mentioned on each item.
Their baby wash has a paste-like consistency. As mentioned on the container, you have to mix a few spoons of this powder with warm milk or water and rub it all over the body before rinsing it off. It costs Rs 425/- for 400g. It is an Ayurvedic product consisting of green gram (moong) dal, chickpeas (channa) dal, rice, turmeric root and flower petals like rose and avarampoo. This product is super as a soap-free option and can be used on a one-week-old baby and above.
In the past, I would love using products by Dove, especially their soap bars. That was the only soap bar I used for years until I decided to shift completely to shower gels and body washes. I was elated to know that they launched Baby Dove. We used their moisturizer for a while and then got their baby wash which had similar moisturizing abilities like their soap bar did for adults. The baby care range is ophthalmologist, dermatologist and paediatrician approved as their products are hypoallergenic with a pH Neutral formula. Baby Dove products are meant to retain the skin’s natural moisture keeping their skin hydrated. Their baby wash is safe on the skin, therefore, can be used on your baby’s delicate skin every day. All their products are free from added parabens, dyes and phthalates. A 400ml bottle of baby wash costs Rs 315/- only.
Of course, as you know, this has been used for generations and most of us have been bathed with this brand since we were little. Currently, the top-to-toe costs Rs 310/- for 500ml. But they have other washes now like Cotton Touch for newborns and Baby Bath Milk and Rice. In the past, we have also used Bedtime Bath. All the Johnson Baby products are mild and safe on the skin. They have moisturizing properties to keep the baby’s skin hydrated. Their products are dermatologically tested and free from parabens, phthalate, asbestos and formaldehyde. All the ingredients used are listed on their website. I like the Baby Bath Milk and Rice pump bottle better than the top-to-toe bath ones. My kids have used the above mentioned till they were 5.
WOW kids products are also free from harsh chemicals like sulphate, parabens, mineral oil and silicones. Their body wash costs Rs 399 for 300ml. It is a complete combination of shampoo, conditioner and body wash in one bottle. It is tear-free and suitable to be used for kids above 4 years of age. My daughter aged 9 years loves the fragrance and says that it washes off quite easily. Her hair also felt soft and smooth after bath. We have the coconut one that consists of aloe vera leaf juice, avocado oil and coconut oil.
All their products are dermatologically certified. It contains natural ingredients and is free from harsh chemicals like parabens, phthalates, sulphates (SLS / SLES), silicon, EDTA, diethanolamine (DEA), toxins and synthetic fragrances. Their body wash costs Rs 550 for 300ml. My kids love the fragrance and feel of this body wash during and after their bath. It removes dirt and oil without drying the skin. It contains coconut oil and olive oil, which moisturizes and nourishes the skin. It also has the antibacterial properties of neem and aloe vera to soothe and heal the skin. This is mostly good for kids aged 4 and above. It comes in 3 variants – Minty Sea, Earth Shine and Moon Sparkle.
So, mamas and papas, which one is the favourite body wash for your little ones?
