It’s a new normal, to wear a mask. There are several types of masks that have come into the market. Some are designed with artwork, some are simple, some are handmade, some are fit with numerous layers for extra protection, some are breathable and some are suffocating us every time we wear them.
But, haven’t some of us worn a mask for the longest time? Not all of us, who have extraordinary features, are pretty from inside. Not all of us, who have flaws on our faces, are demons. You must have heard the famous phrase that tells you to never judge a book by its cover. Well, it all began with a mask.
Wearing a mask has never been a requirement even during the Gulf War I was a part of. We would only see crowds wearing them in the movies. And now, in order to avoid spreading, what we may have, to others, we have to necessarily wear one ourselves. How important is it to wear a mask because only wearing a mask will not protect you from the virus.
Similarly, hiding your true inner self will not allow you to be content. You will always be wanting more because someone else has more. You will always hold a grudge despite smiling at everyone around you. You will always experience discomfort when acting like someone you are not.
So, how do you choose a mask to keep you from spreading or contracting the virus? I have tried several masks during these 5 months. Some were merely a net, which didn’t look like I could be protected from anything, let alone the virus.
Putting on a mask just makes life difficult for us. You could be putting it on for a truckload of reasons but is it worth living such a fake life?
Besides wearing a mask, you will have to wash your hands and practice social distancing too. Probably, for a year more, we will all be trying to protect ourselves with masks, trying hard to protect our kids from contracting the virus and avoiding any social gathering that could expose us to infections.
Sometimes, you wear a mask for so long that you forget who you were beneath it.
So, try and keep your distances from huge get-togethers, stay at home as much as possible and wear a mask, because wearing a mask shows kindness, humility and consideration to heal the world.
Check out some Men Masks here.
Having said that, while wearing a mask, try not to put on a mask that allows you to forget what you really think, what you really feel or who you really are. No one can wear a mask for very long because you could be wearing one to hide from others but you can never hide your true self from your Creator.

People wearing masks have always been on my mind for a few years now.. and now during this pandemic we are all wearing them physically..
I'm so happy you've written beautifully on this subject.. keep it up Cin!
I've just read it in a hurry but will read it again at leisure :)
That is a really thought provoking post. Wearing a mask to protect from the virus is important but we should not forget who we really are!! We all wear a mask to a certain extent though but yes it should not be!! Loved your post
Loved reading this post, totally agree. It’s important to be who we are, now wearing a mask has become a trend. People wear it to show off and forget to maintain distance.
Oh my gosh, you had put out such an interesting blog post. It’s true that so many of us have these invisible masks but we should not forget who we really are. Lovely share.

An interesting and thought-provoking post Cindy. Truth be told, we all wear masks to a certain extent though we really should not.
Very unusual and thought-provoking post, Cindy. Loved the way you related the masks of COVID and the mask that we wear to layer up our true self.
Thanks Debi!
Oh I love this piece. I had to re-read to get so many meanings of it. Can’t wait to wake up tomorrow to see who is wearing which mask. And which one do I want to wear.😬
Hahaa thanks Urvashi…
Must say, you have taken up a important topic and masked it perfectly with your words. I have had my share of people who have been behind masks for too long and it was good riddance when they moved out of my life. Being your true self takes you far in life.
Yes. And thank you Disha.
Wearing mask especially in hot humid climate and for hours is not easy task. Agree that while we should not wear mask on our identity and being yourself in true sense
U have Taken this topic really well and I really feel that there are people who wear the invisible mask and don’t know what is going behind the mind. this is really tight answer to those people
Hehehe… Send it to them…
Wearing mask is the need of hour but we shouldn’t forget the identity of ours . You have shared your thought in a nice way . I liked it .
Thanks so much…
Absolutely worth a read. We are all using mask and seriously loosing some mind while behind the mask.
Thanks for sharing this one
I understand what you mean Cindy and I am so glad someone thought in these lines, it was so important to share this
I love the way you bring in new perspectives. Just wow, I loved reading your thoughts around how we must remember who we really are, behind teh mask
Thank you so much Mandavi.
I guess we all wear masks for some or the other reason. Forgetting what we are behind the mask isn’t an option though. Have to be true to ourselves atleast!
Such a deep post this is! Even before COVID era, people have been wearing invisible masks and this is something that irks me the most! Be yourself is what I wish the world could be!
This is such a beautiful post, loved how you mentioned that not all who have flaws are demons. This is some deep and heartwarming thought.
wearing a mask is a need of an hour and can hide your face but cannot hide the real person behind it. Very deep post and true to the core.
I loved this post..especially these lines ” Not all of us, who have extraordinary features, are pretty from inside. Not all of us, who have flaws on our faces, are demons. You must have heard the famous phrase that tells you to never judge a book by its cover” I am an open book and I wonder why people hide behind masks!
It’s so important in today’s life to follow this new normal …I am so happy you shared this with us …
Wow loved the title itself sounds great.. And thank you for sharing the hygiene tips which is really important and mandatory to be followed to be safe…
Covid or no covid, people around you are always wearing a mask. I liked your subtle comparison and entire post. Very interesting indeed.
Very well written. It’s necessary to wear a mask to protect ourselves from the virus but it’s also important to not forget who we really are behind that mask. Loved how you connected these two points.
Thank you!
Nice post and loved the way you had compared the masks. Even if we don’t like the truth is wearing a mask shows kindness, humility, and consideration to heal the world. As it is every human on Earth is praying daily for things to get back normal again. With or without the mask yes we need to hold our true self and existence with thoughts intact.
Thank you dear.
Loved reading between the lines of this post. A very philosophical take on wearing a Mask, now as a medical necessity and otherwise.
Loved the idea of the post – connecting the physical mask with the invisible mask. Also loved the hygiene tips that you have enlisted. Keep writing such amazing posts.
I am not comfortable with a mask as being asthmatic, I find it difficult to breath. But I like masks which reflect my personality. E.g I like colors so I dnt go for black n plain masks. But yes keeping in mind if they actually help to block and spread of virus, I make sure I buy a good mask.
I don’t like wearing masks, but it is the need of the day! But yes, we should never forget the real person behind the mask!
That’s such a great Post Cindy, love your thoughts about this. wearing a mask is so much the need of the hour, but one should not forget the real self..
I hate wearing masks. But it is mandatory to wear them in a pandemic like this. Humans have been wearing invisible masks for eons. There is no originality whatsoever; everyone is hiding behind layers of lies and hypocrisy.
this is an interesting write up Cindy and I am amazed to see your perspective. I agree so many in our society wears a mask ( not the one, that use for covid protection) and try to hide their real personality from others. love the end message of post. and you had given a great message not only for protecting our society from Covid but also a great reminder for people to not forget who they really are.
Cindy, I must say this is a well written post with masks being the perfect metaphor for our human souls. Today, we have to wear mask to protect our-self & others, but given a thought many of us have worn the invisible masks for years now. Sometimes to please others, sometimes to not disappoint them. But, I guess lockdown has brought us to some big realization to our existence.
this is such a nice write-up Cindy, I really like the analogy here. Knowing and owning up ones true self is the most important thing to do.
Really loved the way you compared the masks from both perspective, one for our safety and the other to hide ourselves.
Am working on a blog post about masks as well although its from a fashion perspective. I like the various aspects of personality and behavior of people and our own insight you have looked at.
Thanks Subhashish, why don’t we interlink our posts?
Thanks for sharing this amazing write up. Everyone needs to read this article. Everything in our lives get cheated when we choose to hide behind our masks. Then there are the emotional masks, the masks we hide behind because of fear. And I am totally agree you on this while wearing a mask, try not to put on a mask that allows you to forget what you really think, what you really feel or who you really are.
Covid-19 has made everyone wear masks, but people have been wearing them since ages. Great post.
Cindy, liked the way you came up with a connection between Covid mask and the mask that we sometimes wear in non-civid days. It is important to know our true self. N matter what type of mask we wear, but we should always remain who we are. because, once it gets too late then we will not be able to recognize ourselves.
