Every year, on my birthday, it has been a tradition to dine at a Japanese restaurant because I love sashimi and, now, so do my kids. My poor hubby (who actually introduced me to sushi and sashimi years ago because he wanted to try them out) merely watches us gobble up a platter in no time, amazed. After we had tried it out back then, I decided it was yum and he decided it was yuck. This was just one of the million things we agreed to disagree on.
So, firstly, let’s dive into these delicacies from the Japanese cuisine to know what is what.
‘Sushi’ is vinegared rice, often sweet and salty.
‘Sashimi’ is merely fresh raw fish, often finely sliced and eaten with soy sauce. Sashimi is also put into sushi rolls along with avocado and other ingredients.
‘Maki’ roll is a roll wrapped with ‘Nori’ (dried edible seaweed sheet) on the outside.
‘Uramaki’ roll, also called upside-down Maki, is the one wrapped with sushi on the outside.
‘Nigiri’ is a small treat where the sashimi lies on a mound of plain sushi.
‘Temaki’ is a Maki roll in a cone shape which is supposed to be a fast food version of sushi I haven’t tried yet.
Sashimi is usually rich in Omega-3 Fatty Acids. Consuming salmon, specifically, has a number of health benefits like reducing the risk of heart diseases, strokes and cancers. But having sushi at a good restaurant is very important, especially in cities where many do not follow food regulations. If the fish is not the right one, not fresh or not cut properly, it can cause serious illnesses and sometimes even death. Therefore, choosing the right restaurant is extremely crucial.
Japanese cuisine also includes cooked dishes like tempura, ramen, noodles, soups, cabbage pancakes, rice bowls, pot dishes, grills and barbeques. That is why, while looking for a good Japanese restaurant, we also find out if they serve sashimi because that is what we want the most. We are excited when there is a variety of sashimi. So, if you love sashimi, too, here are 8 Japanese restaurants with the best sashimi in Bangalore, India, that you would love to visit.
Location – Devatha Plaza, Residency Road, Ashok Nagar, Bangalore – 560025, Karnataka.

This was one of the first Japanese restaurants in Bangalore. Harima opened in 2004 and has been serving authentic sashimi since then. We have been here several times until we found options closer to home. Although their platter has reduced considerably in size, their sashimi still remains fresh and yummy.
Location – Level 18, Shangri-La Hotel, No. 56, 6B, Palace Road, Bengaluru – 560001, Karnataka.

We have been here twice and loved the fresh sashimi here. Of course, they have sushi rolls and all that but the sashimi pieces were thick and fresh. We are thinking of going there again.
Location – 8, Four Seasons Hotel Bengaluru at Embassy ONE, Bellary Road, Dena Bank Colony, Armane Nagar, Bengaluru – 560032, Karnataka.

We have been here four times already and still cannot get enough of it. The sashimi here is yum. We ordered the boat which had an awesome mix of sushi and sashimi. You have to try it out.
Location 1 – 594, 12th Main Rd, 2nd Stage, HAL 2nd Stage, Indiranagar, Bengaluru – 560008, Karnataka.

Location 2 – Umiya Velociti, 1st Floor, Hyderabad – Bangalore Highway, Hebbal Kempapura, Bengaluru – 560024, Karnataka.

We haven’t been to the Indiranagar branch but have visited the Hebbal one quite a few times. They have a nice platter that we order every time we visit. The sushi chef also assisted us on how to hold the chopsticks the right way. That’s why this is also one of the 8 Japanese restaurants we loved.
Location – Metro Pillar No. 54, 2nd Floor, 311, 100 Feet Rd, Indira Nagar 1st Stage, Stage 1, Indiranagar, Bengaluru – 560038, Karnataka.

A quiet place for a nice Japanese dinner. We enjoyed the various sashimi here, especially the Spicy Salmon Roll. Personally, I also enjoyed the Beef Yakiniku because they made it just the way I like it – between Blue Rare and Rare.
Location – 11/1, Alfred St, behind Baldwin Boys High School back gate, Richmond Town, Bengaluru – 560025, Karnataka.

We had a lovely time trying the Squid Sashimi here. They have a boat with 24 pieces of sushi rolls which we enjoyed very much. For those of you who do not like the ‘rawness’ of it all, there are yummy cheese bites and cooked duck sushi, too.
Location – Regal Suites, 428, 5th Main Rd, HRBR Layout 2nd Block, HRBR Layout, Kalyan Nagar, Bengaluru – 560043, Karnataka.
Click for their menu here.
Here we were introduced to the famous ‘Bento Boxes’ which were served with Miso Soup. We selected the Salmon and Tuna Bento and got some Chicken Katsu to try, too. We were tripping on the boiled edamame. They also have Ramen and Udon.
Location – The Oberoi Bengaluru, 37-39, Mahatma Gandhi Rd, Yellappa Garden, Yellappa Chetty Layout, Sivanchetti Gardens, Bengaluru – 560001, Karnataka.

In traditional Japanese art, wabi-sabi describes impermanence where one appreciates beauty that is “imperfect, impermanent, and incomplete” in nature. Wabi Sabi in Bangalore has the yummiest sashimi platter which includes tuna, salmon and squid. We have been here only once but have to come here again.
Japanese cuisine includes a lot more than just sashimi but we normally order only the platter and some sashimi (if the platter does not include it). Of course, consumption of raw fish is an acquired taste and we do not expect everyone to love it. But, for those of you who have similar taste buds as ours, do save this post for the next time you are looking for sashimi, check out one of these 8 Japanese restaurants with the best sashimi in Bangalore. We only promote the best!

I prefer sushi to sashimi but I do really love Japanese food! The best I’ve tried in India is at Wasabi by Morimoto at Taj Bombay. The same restaurant in Taj Delhi comes in a close second. It’s a veryyyy expensive meal but totally worth it. Check it out when you’re in either of these cities!
Will try that soon in Mumbai!
I’m a vegetarian and would take your word for the recommendations and pass them over to friends. The closest to anything Japanese I’ve tried is Veg Sushi (a weird hack) and didn’t like it.
I love Japanese food especially Sushi is my hot favourite. Thanks for the listicles, saving it right away. I am going to Bangalore next week, and will surely dig into these places.
Do call when you’re in Bangalore!
These are some good recommendations. If I ever visit Bangalore, I will surely check them out. In Mumbai we have few good Japanese restaurants which I have visited. My favs being Yui and Izumi. I visited Foo but was not happy with the food.
Izumi is awesome. Kofuku is also good. I have to try Yui next time I come. I don’t think Foo is authentic Japanese.
I wanted to try Japanese Food. Your tips with Google location are awesome. But I have to come Bangalore for this 😔 Like your details in this post because I am not aware of many food items names. Thank you Cindy for upgrading my knowledge.
You’re welcome, Neeta!
I have only been to Wabi Sabi. Unable to try to Japanese places as much as I want to because my friends and family are pure vegetarians and they don’t get many options to try.
What an aptly times article, I am about to travel to Bangalore and will be entertaining, this is a good selection to add to my lunch and dinner options for this trip.
I know how much you enjoy sushi. Haven’t been to Bangalore in a while. Hoping to check out the places you have listed.
It is difficult to find a place that serves good sushi. Thank you for sharing the recommendations. I will share them with my family in Bangalore.
I never tasted Japanese food, nor been to Bangalore yet, although have friends and relatives over there. But If I visit any time soon will keep your list of recommendations with me to explore Japanese food in the city.
Wow Cindy, you’ve shared some amazing spots for Japanese cuisine and made it so convenient with the Google addresses. Well last month I was in Bangalore and was hoping to catch up with you. Unfortunately, my plans shifted, and I ended up heading to Mysore after two days in Bangalore. I felt pretty disappointed that I didn’t get a chance to meet you.
I’ll definitely keep these restaurant recommendations in mind for my next visit, hopefully with you 😄
Whaaaaaattttt!!!! Next time please do call, Anjali! Advance notice would be more helpful so we can plan the meeting properly!
Your blog is a goodie’s delight .All names and maps included. I am a fussy eater and being a vegetarian, I try safe vegetarian fare.
Trust a sushi lover to come up with a list like this😄… Good one Cindy👍.
I can eat veg sushi… like avocado n stuff n i like it too but not the real ones… raw fish is something I havent acquired a taste for😬. But I love gimbap/kimbap
Haha! Thanks, Kaveri!
Izanagi has been on my TV ( to visit ) list for ever so long . Being a vegetarian, I have to satisfy myself with Sushi:)
Are you in Bangalore, Chandrika?
I’ve never tried Japanese food, and like your husband, I’m sure I’ll hate it for two reasons, one I don’t like anything raw (except of course salads), and two I’m vegetarian (and I believe forcefully making a veg version of a nonveg dish is like interfering with nature and can be disastrous ;)). Despite these reasons, I’m intrigued by all things Japanese, and so would, at some point in time, try their veg options. Crosstown Japan from your list is very close to my home. I just might decide to take a look sooner than later. Thank you for this lovely blog.
Whaatttt! Let’s meet sometime soon, Ratna. It would be lovely!
In my hay days, that is before COVID-19, I did have sashimi and I liked it as well. But now, that I am fully vegetarian, I go for sushi with veggies! But I agree, sashimi is an acquired taste.
Ab ye sab restaurants try karne ke liye Bangalore aana padega. Uff! My taste buds are drooling. These seem like great recommendation. Will surely try and visit at least one if and when I’m in the city
Come, come!
Besides the tips about where to get the best Sashimi in town, I loved the fact that you added the Google location by which one can easily find the place on the map or while navigating. I might steal your idea for my Delhi series.
Hahaha, sure, Preeti!
