I don’t really watch talk shows but I have been following Koffee with Karan for years now. Not sure why. Maybe it’s because of the way they speak, the unwanted gossip, the laughter fits or the interesting conversations they have? Whatever the reason, this is one talk show that I’ve managed to not lose interest in yet.
Anyway, I just watched the Season 8 awards. And, I must say that I felt it came too early. How many episodes were there? 12? Isn’t that less? Because the 20+ episodes per season felt normal before the pandemic, didn’t it?
Firstly, let me share my reaction to the Orry character (who is the son of a rich man). Duh! My reaction to that part of the last episode – ‘OMG! What is the world coming to!?’ Even my 7-year-old son was laughing at the things he was saying. Only yesterday, I happened to watch a reel where this ‘internet sensation’ Orry had this conversation with Salman Khan. He says that people pay him to touch them or heal them or something like that! He makes money while ‘doing his best’. Someone, please do something! Is he Paris Hilton in the making? Anyway, he’s apparently planning his ‘digital demise’ soon, so, never mind.
About the awards!
Wait, first about the season. Didn’t you find it sober and fun in an interesting sort of way? Yes, there was less of the gossip and all but I think it was nice with Karan and Ranveer all decked up in black, Deepika talking about her depression, Jhanvi blurting out a secret, Khushi making her debut on the couch, Kareena and Kajol royally taking Karan’s case, Kiara innocently roasting Karan, etc. It had a different angle to it and I liked it.
So, I think all the awards were not justified because all the episodes and personas involved were unique in their own way.
Let’s see the awards of Koffee with Karan – Season 8!
Best Moment – Rani-Kajol. But I loved the moment Ajay Devgn said ‘Once upon a time, you!’ when Karan asked him who was his sworn enemy in the industry.
Best Rapid Fire – Ananya Pandey. I still think that it should have been given to Ajay Devgn because his answers were very unexpected.
Best Episode – Rani-Kajol, while the Special Jury Award went to Ranveer-Deepika. Maybe I agree with this one. Though, as I said, all the episodes had their own charm, don’t you think?
Best Performer, male – Saif Ali Khan. I think it should have been Saif and Ajay Devgn. Both had class and spoke well. No, I’m not a fan of Ajay Devgn but his calm but witty answers amazed me.
Best Performer, female – Deepika Padukone. Yes, I liked the way she bravely spoke about her feelings and relationship with Ranveer. But, I also loved ‘unfiltered’ Sara Ali Khan who exudes rawness and intelligence when she speaks.
Best Koffee Burns – Varun Dhawan. Yeah, there were quite a lot of burns for Karan in this season but Varun Dhawan did it all through the episode, so this award had to be his. It was also a good burn when Kiara innocently referred to Karan as ‘that generation’ or ‘my parents are young like…’ and she pointed to Karan.
Despite the awards, I loved every episode. Yes, this season did not reveal too much about who is dating whom but it showed some real feelings of the ‘stars’ we so often love to watch on big screens. It mostly brought out the celebrities for what they are – hilarious, calm, witty, surprising, informative, etc. human beings. Who knew ‘dhai kilo ka haath’, Sunny Deol had this fetish for teddy bears? Or that ‘casanova of Bollywood’, Ranbir Kapoor ‘ was so supportive with their child when Alia Bhatt felt she was losing it? Who knew that ‘energetic powerhouse’ Ranveer Singh managed to handle Deepika’s depression by sometimes just not asking questions? Who knew what ‘Lord Bobby’ went through in the past few years? Who knew that ‘beauty queen’ Zeenat Aman enjoyed her time off-screen? Who knew ‘the beautiful’ Sharmila Tagore was battling cancer some time ago?
This season surely taught us that these actors (perhaps with a little luxury) are just like us. So, I don’t think they should have awards for each season. It may be purely for entertainment purposes, but still, they shouldn’t have awards because each celebrity is talking about their own unique journey. What do you think?
Still, I’m waiting for the next season!
