According to Greek mythology, Myconus, a local hero who was also the grandson of god Apollo, was the eponymous first ruler of Mykonos. Mykonos, whose population is a little more than 10,000, is one of the most expensive Greek islands with its elegant boutiques and luxurious hotels. Every year, more than 1.5 million tourists visit this charming island, to enjoy the stunning beaches, whitewashed buildings and vibrant nightlife.
Mykonos is also known for its very strong winds and still has some of its signature windmills overlooking the waters. You will find many churches on this beautiful island because, for many years, islanders were required to build a church on their property before building a house.
Mykonos has plenty of hotels and resorts that start from USD 35/- to USD 500/-. You can choose your stay according to your preferences but we also suggest that you try out the one we stayed at. We felt that Mykonos Bay Hotel was a great romantic getaway for couples.
This well-maintained hotel is only 1 km from the bus station. If you’re staying in the new property, the 10-minute walk back to your room may be a bit difficult due to the uphill climb but it is worth it. The Mykonos International Airport is just 10 minutes away by car. If you’d like, you could ask the receptionist, in advance, to book a cab for you, especially for early morning drops.
This property has private beach access with beach beds and great service. Though the beach does not have soft sand, the water is lovely and the view of the Aegean Sea is picturesque.
Our room was so cave-like with its rounded wall edges, two sofas and a curtained closet. It had the basic amenities plus a private outdoor jacuzzi. We were free to gaze at the sunset while soaking in warm water. What else do you want?
PS: There was a hand faucet in the loo. Can you imagine the relief (I’m Indian)? I loved this feature the best.
When we checked in, at the reception behind the ‘Villas Bar’, we were served a colourful drink before our luggage was taken up to our room. The receptionist explained everything so well that our stay was seamless. Any issue we had was taken up and resolved in no time.
The house-keeping service here was the best we’ve ever come across among all the hotels we’ve stayed at in Europe. Our room was cleared out every time we got back. The bed would’ve been made again, the towels would have been refreshed again, the bins would have been emptied again and any visible trash would have vanished again. It was my husband’s dream come true!
At breakfast, the server explained the menu for the day with patience and courtesy. I must say that the portion sizes were beyond our expectations but we did enjoy different dishes every day.
We enjoyed a good dinner at Captain’s (located on the Mykonos Waterfront) from where you can view the sunset and feast on some yummy seafood. From here, it’s a 20-minute walk to Mykonos Bay Hotel.
The hotel has two swimming pools where we could chill and relax. One was closer to the new building and the other near the restaurant. I’m not a water person, so I only dipped myself in the cool water once but we ate and drank by the poolside more than swam in it.
Some rooms have a private pool, too.
Though it was quite hot in Mykonos, the winds kept this hotel, which was located by the beach, quite cool and comfortable. We had a wonderful time at Mykonos Bay Hotel, especially because of the happy staff. They naturally brought out a smile on our faces. There was a full-length mirror in the reception area where I checked myself every time I stepped out. Hence, our stay here was the best during our Greece trip. And, what a way to mark the end of a splendid holiday!
We would love to come back someday!!

I did, thank you, Sivaranjini.
Wow!! What a beautiful property. Thanks for recommending it. My anniversary is near will check this one for my plans
Building a church before before a house? Such strict rules about faith! Btw, it does sound like a rare hotel in Europe if it had a hand faucet in the toilet and they cleaned out the room every day. That NEVER happens in this continent. Marking this one for when we travel to Mykonos (hopefully soon)
You should, Manali!!!
Oh wow! Greece has been on my travel bucket list since my childhood (when I was introduced to Greek mythology), and your blog with a reference to the myth has hit the nail on my head. I must visit Greece sooner than later. Hope to do it along with my Europe trip in the next year or so. Your pics, your writing, and everything else about this blog has left my heart with warm longing!
Wow! stunning views…what a wonderful place to go for vacation.
Reading this makes me want to go on a vacation right now. Mykonos has been in our bucket list but weren’t able to visit on our last Europe trip. Hopefully next time, we’ll be able to visit this amazing place too! Appreciate you sharing your experience.
Your inputs are invaluable for travelers. I am not sure if I would be traveling to Greece anytime soon but will definitely look this up if I happen to get a chance . Loved that bit about the hand wash !

A great review of the Mykonos Hotel. I love a good Hotel, preferably a luxury Hotel, when I go on a vacation. This Hotel seems to fit the bill. Good review.
