As a mom, of a 7 year old and 3 year old, I find myself getting wiser every day. Initially, while travelling, we were overloaded with kids’ stuff, and ours combined, because we felt that everything we took could be needed. And then there was the pram that we dragged with us wherever we went. But every time we got back, I would analyse what we had not used during our holiday. Over time, I made a list of things that we could do without as well as those that were important to carry along.
Festivities call for a lot of travelling and the onus is on you for many things, like making sure that everyone’s festive outfits have been packed, jewellery has been packed, toiletries and cosmetics have been packed, snacks have been packed, etc. While arranging the things we need to wear and eat, we may forget the basic things required for our overall health and hygiene. So, here is the list of the few things I never miss carrying whenever I am out of town, especially with the kids.
Toothbrush and toothpaste: Dental hygiene is extremely important to avoid regular and painful dentist visits. And sometimes, my kids want to brush their teeth once they wake up from their snoozes during a road trip. Therefore, their toothbrushes and toothpaste is a must carry wherever we go.
Wet wipes: As you know, kids are always hungry and while they eat, they are mostly messy. My wet wipes come handy so that my kids have a clean face at all times. Sometimes, if they sweat, I tend to give them a wipe all over so they feel fresh for a while until we reach our destination.
Water bottle: Many of us avoid or forget to carry this basic thing due to its weight but water is very important in order to keep ourselves hydrated at all times. Our kids definitely need it and it also helps with keeping our urinary tract healthy.
Hand Sanitizer: Travelling allows a lot of exposure to our kids, and this includes exposing them to germs too. So, before they hold anything to eat, my Savlon hand sanitizer jumps out of my bag because kids are always in a hurry. If they say they are hungry, that means they need food inside their mouth two minutes ago. Hand sanitizers are important to ensure optimum hygiene for our kids in order to keep the germs from entering their bodies.
Towel: You never know when you may need that towel. You may need it to wipe off while at the house you are staying at or at the beach after a good swim. Carrying your own towel is always important for your own hygiene. That goes for the kids too.
Even if we are staying at a hotel, I always make sure I carry along the above things just in case. Plus, you never know when you may want to impulsively go on a road trip so it’s better to be well-equipped with the basic necessities to keep yourself clean and healthy. This is my list. Anything else you can think of which is a basic hygiene necessity that you carry along on a trip? Do comment on the same below.

This is so on point. I definitely had all of this items on my daughters first plane ride, and it was a lifesaver. Not only are they helpful with children but also the parents. Thanks for sharing.
Traveling is always a whole other story when it comes to kids! These are great things to remember. We try to pack the essentials in a carry on as well.
This article is rather timely as my daughter and I will be traveling next month. Good reminder on what to have on-hand even for short-stay trips. People often forget hand sanitizer but it’s especially important while traveling!
I totally agree. Even I over pack for kids thinking we will need it all. Infact I have had past experiences that things I do not carry or forget to carry are needed the most. But now, I try and pack light.
Oh Cindy this is so on point . I always forget water bottles. We have driven back home just to get my son’s favourite sipper many a times. But I really like the idea to sit and think over stuff like these. It definitely is helpful for future trips
These are some must haves to keep while travelling with kids or even if we are traveling then we should have wet wipes, sanitizer and habd towel to stay hygienic.
Amazing and beautiful post. Very useful and beneficial checklist for the travelling. Hand sanitizes and wet wipes are best for the travel . Great thoughts.
Those are the five must haves whenever we are on a family vacation. Just 2 kids in our family, my 2 cute nieces but still every other person have those things handy.
i am planning to travel in hills for a week. thanks for the quick checklist. i will surely use it. my list also has medicines like first aid, hot water bottle & easy to make meals.
Hand sanitizes and wet wipes are life savers for sure, irrespective of the duration of travel I always carry these two things in my bag. Yes your list is good and I would like to add a simple thing its empty paper or disposable bags to collect garbage and dispose it properly, with small kids littering also needs to be taken care of.
Our lists definitely have a lot of points in common for traveling with kids, but I avoid carrying towels if we are staying in a hotel. I feel it takes up unnecessary space!

I very recently travelled with my baby and forgot the wet wipes. Quite thankfully we had access to a shop where we could buy some.

These are good to remember. I always make myself a list before a trip because I always forget something
I agree 100%. Wet wipes and towels are the best.
I am keeping it saved for when my son grows up. For now he is just 18 months and even if we go out to park we have to have a load of stuff.
Haha yeah tell me about it. But start now, your load will be a lot less.
