Yoga with Kids

I have always been a dedicated practitioner of yoga. It has been part of my daily routine now. Once I am done with the daytime house chores after my kid leaves for school, I get my “me time” to do my yoga, catch up on some reading, and watch a little bit of Netflix. But one day, when my little one decided not to go to school, we decided to do some yoga together. How impossible do you think this task was, for me? How many tiny tots do you see sitting in one place and meditating?

Yes. My little one has been practicing with me from a young age because I believe in the benefits of yoga, especially for kids. Yoga helps kids improve focus and concentration since the idea is to get them to focus on the task at hand. This translates to better focus and cognitive functioning at school, leading to improved academic achievement.

Yoga for kids can include songs, games, and other fun activities that get them moving together and learning from one another, particularly with a partner, during yoga poses. This creates a positive, engaging environment in which kids can have fun, talk to one another, and learn to trust one another. And this is exactly what happened the day my kid decided to stay home with his mamma. I was his fun partner doing yoga with his favorite songs and playing games, making faces and smiling a lot. Yoga does not have to pious and serious. The idea is to engage your kids and help them socialize while being mindful.

Practicing yoga helps kids to relieve stress by using their breathing to calm the mind and the nervous system. The physical practice of yoga also helps to relieve tension and release negative emotions held physically in the body, helping them to fall asleep faster and stay asleep longer. Teaching proper breathing techniques and building physical and mental strength from a young age, helps to reduce the chances of obesity, depression, and depressive symptoms, as well as increases self-esteem, self-confidence, and improves their overall wellbeing.

Eurokids’ Eunoia is a unique program that encourages radical thinking by integrating fun-based, activity-based and essential skill-based training to encourage kids to have a healthy mind and soul from a young age. I was proud to be a part of the HappyOn exhibition that took place on 29 Feb 2020 at Lalit Ashok, Bangalore where Eurokids was the proud knowledge partner. Such events and programs help us explore a new world for our little ones so that they can try new things. Kids need a day off like this one.
