You know the drill! There are certain check-ups that we need to get done every 6, 12, or 24 months, as a standard, to ensure we’re fit and ready to take on life. But, honestly, are we really getting all these tests done, or do we only do those checks for which we know we would require medication or treatment?
If your health checks have fallen behind your to-do list and are nestled comfortably in between cleaning out that junk drawer you’ve been putting off for the last six years, and finally learning how to use the air fryer properly and not do everything at 180 degrees, it’s time to reprioritize.
One such check that needs to be bumped to the top of our to-do list is for our hearing. Our hearing is one of those things we take for granted until it starts to fade.
And by the time we realize we’re missing parts of conversations or we’re turning the TV volume to a decibel that’s higher than usual, it could already be too late. Scary?
Well, below are some of the reasons you need regular hearing tests.
Not just music, but everything. If you feel like you’re listening to everything through a wall, or you need to strain in order to understand what people are saying, you can be experiencing hearing loss already.
If caused by illnesses, a blockage, or an injury, some types of hearing loss can be reversed, while others can be permanent. Whether it is due to earwax buildup or not, we can understand the seriousness only once we get our hearing checked. Hearing experts like Medico Audiology can help you understand how your ears are progressing and give you a game plan for the future.
Our hearing plays a massive part in our safety every second of the day. Even when we’re asleep. Our ears are helpful for more than just hearing the latest work gossip. Our ears are early detection tools for things like vehicles sneaking up on us, the smoke alarm going off when we’re not cooking, crying children that need soothing, and so much more. They’re our built-in bat signal for trouble and help to keep us safe. And if we’re not able to hear these warnings, we need to do something about it.
We’ve all wished at times that certain people would just shush or we could just zip up their mouths for a moment’s peace. But if we start to lose our hearing, we’ll realise how much we miss our crabby old neighbor moaning at us over the fence. Honestly, we will! Therefore, regular hearing tests are important to make sure we can have good communication, especially when we need to.
Our hearing helps us to communicate well with others, be it at home or at work, but if we’re struggling to hear or experiencing decreased levels of hearing, we may not be able to communicate as well as we once did. Therefore, we need regular hearing tests that can help us uncover what is going on and perhaps get us some nifty hearing aids so we don’t have to lip-read and pretend we heard everything everyone was saying, when in actuality, we didn’t. And in the case of that pesky neighbor, we can simply turn off our hearing aid or remove it with a smile, can’t we? 😉
In conclusion, we need regular hearing tests, which are as important as the other health checks we get done as we age. We don’t really want to go about in absolute silence for the rest of lives, now do we?

Great reminder. We often tend to neglect our hearing. We regularly get eye check ups done, but when it comes to hearing tests, it takes a back seat.
This is such an important topic. Thank you for bringing this topic to limelight. More people should be aware of it!
Oh! you made me think altogether in a different angle which I never thought off. I must go and test my ears as my job ask me to listen to people and problems all through the day. My Ears should stay strong
Totally relate! Hearing is one of those things we ignore until it slips away. Regular checks aren’t just about catching loss—they keep us safe, social, and in the loop. Definitely adding this to my health to-do list!
It is indeed a concern of late particularly with so much of noise around us. Our ears suffer with this constant onslaught. A necessary reminder
I am glad you wrote this post. Thanks to the noise pollution around us and the fact that we often wear headphones or earbuds, doctors are recommending hearing tests starting at age 50. Your timely and sensible post will help spread awareness.
Hearing tests come far down the must-do ones and are often taken only after a problem arises. They’re important though, as you rightly pointed out.
This is scary as well as a wake-up call. I hadn’t thought how hearing loss can creep up until communication breaks down. Time to schedule that check-up
Love how you broke this down…makes me want to book my own test instead of waiting till it’s too late!
This was informative. I did not have any idea that ear checkup on a regular basis can be so important.
I have seen people around me having hearing problems. The cause is excessive usage of mobile phones and earbuds. Your post is a welcome reminder that we should not take our hearing for granted and get it checked.
Very true! Just like regular dental and eye check ups are becoming the norm , a hearing checkup should also be done because early intervention can help a lot in diseases originating from the ears.Did you know that our ears are also responsible for maintaining posture and balance ? I will just add it should not just be about hearing but actual ears in general too. A lot of diseases like inflammation of the jaws, certain cancers etc have referred pain going into the ears and we dismiss them as simple ear aches , putting oil etc when what is needed is a an examination by an expert.
I never really thought about hearing tests this way, but you’re right, we just assume our ears will keep working fine. Reading this made me realize I should probably get mine checked too.
