Reading and writing have always been my forte. And, I love books. I would make my mom buy pretty-looking empty books or spot some empty books around the house and find content to fill them up with. That is how my diary, lyrics book and recipe book were born (though I’m not a fan of cooking and haven’t tried some of the recipes till date). Because of all this, I would call myself a bookworm. But now I know better. A bookworm is someone who has a passion for reading books. A bibliophile is someone who loves books and finds joy in collecting them. And, a blogger is someone who writes down their experiences and innermost thoughts. Basically, I’m 3 in 1.
After I got into capturing memories for a few small events, posting random thoughts on Instagram after my son was born, modelling for a couple of videos I didn’t have to post on social media, etc., I understood that I’m a jack of many trades. I started taking up projects I could complete from home while being with the kids.
Brand Monitoring Tools: Essential Solutions for Today’s PR Teams
Soon, I realized that many brands did not know who exactly they were looking for. Initially, they would ask if I was a blogger, but would only ask me to post a picture or video on Instagram. Writing was nowhere in the job description. That’s when I researched and found that this was a new concept of marketing that was catching up, and many were not aware of the differences between the various social media promoters.
Therefore, to clear all the confusion, and also to have another reason to write, I thought of jotting down the differences between the various social media amplifiers available today.
Content writers can contribute to brand websites, social media posts, bulk emails, technical documents and other advertising campaigns. Content writing generally involves providing valuable and reliable information. It covers all types of writing – simple or complex, formal or informal.
Bloggers are content writers who typically connect with a diverse range of audiences through informal writing, personal experiences and creative storytelling. They can also provide valuable content with a tinge of human emotion. Bloggers usually own a domain (paid or otherwise), called a blog, that is regularly updated.
So, if you’re looking for someone to write an article of 500 words or more about your product or service, you should look for bloggers. You can give the blogger a choice to publish their reviews and experiences on their website or yours. While there are lifestyle bloggers, such as myself, there also exists a huge pool of niche bloggers who focus only on food, or fashion, or parenting, or travelling, etc.
Instagrammers are those content creators who regularly post on Instagram, as images or videos, for the mere joy of sharing.
Influencers, on the other hand, are those Instagrammers who tend to influence you in some way, with a product they have used, a service they have tried or a motivational quote they swear by. They can promote various things like mental health workshops, play areas for kids, clothing discounts, milk delivery options, travel tips, product reviews, etc.
So, if you want to spread awareness about your product, service or workshop, you should look for Instagram influencers. Besides niche, influencers can be categorised based on their follower count. Nano-influencers have 1,000 to 10,000 followers, known for their high engagement rates and community connections. Micro-influencers have 10,000 to 100,000 followers and offer a good balance of reach and engagement. Macro-influencers have 100,000 to 1 million followers and can provide significant reach and visibility. Mega-influencers have more than 1 million followers. Celebrities and established figures with large audiences, like Cristiano Ronaldo, Lionel Messi and Virat Kohli, are some of the well-known names that come under this last category.
YouTubers, like Instagrammers, are those content creators who share general videos on YouTube. The videos can range from entertainment to educational documentaries, gaming to grooming, travels to teen-mom struggles, interviews to ideas, etc. Their YouTube channel can be handled by an individual or a group.
Vloggers, or video bloggers, are those YouTubers who share video blogs that document their personal experiences, thoughts and daily lives. Vlogging tends to encourage a stronger sense of personal connection between the creator and their audience, as they are usually individuals who may or may not have a team assisting them with their vlogs.
So, if you’re looking for someone to review your product by creating a video that goes beyond 2 minutes, look for a vlogger who will talk in detail about what you have to offer. This audiovisual way of promotion is good for an audience that is not fond of reading.
Clicking photos even with a DSLR camera does not make you a photographer. A photographer can be a professional who earns a living by taking pictures or an amateur who does it as a hobby. However, to be called a photographer, you need to be able to identify the correct angles, have an eye for detail and create good photographs. Photographers may or may not have a photo blog that tells stories through their clicks.
Photo editing depends on the skills of the photographer and their team. So, if you want someone to capture memories of a party you are throwing or photograph your products, look for a photographer (professional or amateur) as per your budget. Photographers will normally have a collection of their clicks stored somewhere for you to explore. If you get an Instagram influencer or vlogger who also happens to be a photographer, you may be in luck.
Models are those individuals who pose for artists, photographers, and designers, for images or videos, to showcase clothing, accessories or to show off a work of art. They can be seen in advertisements and fashion shows, or can also be used as references for painters, sculptors and other visual promotion.
So, if you are looking to make a promotional video for your brand and have your script and idea ready, you only need to look for the right model who fits your criteria.
While advertising your product on television or newspapers can be expensive, promoting the same through the above social media promoters can cost less. In case you do not have the bandwidth to call each influencer or vlogger separately, you can always hire a social media manager (who can be an individual or a company) who acts like a middleman between your brand and the social media promoters (who are not salespeople).
To conclude, we would suggest that you identify which marketing strategy best suits your brand and budget, and approach the right company or individual accordingly. All the best.

The scenario has changed past few years , from serious bloggers now we have plenty of influncers 🙂
But I think all have their share in market , more or less people are getting work 🙂
True, many people know the difference but most people still don’t.
Wow! You wrote this in 2019! How detailed and elaborate. I didn’t even know half the words that you have shared. I didn’t know, Vloggers were around then.
Yeah I’m a blogger as well as an influencer, so got to know these terms when people mistook me for a vlogger, too.
Very useful articles for those who cannot make out the difference between all these.
Still people are confused between influencer & blogger. And Instagrammers are not bloggers.
Liked the post. It will help those in confusion.
P.S. u missed my name in best blogger haha
Hahahahha…. Im not sure I know you’re genre… But we should connect!
That’s right. This needs to be defined well. many people get confused between these.

Thank you Avinash.
You have explained it so well. It can definitely be a good guide for beginners.
I too am a blogger and influencer, and as per my personal experience, I know what its like confusing a blogger for an influencer or an influencer for a blogger; cz thats what happens most of the times. People got to know and realise the difference and stop denoting blogger, influencer and vlogger as same.
This is a nice article and quite helpful for people to understand, layman especially. These days bloggers are turning to Ig and that’s more like microblogging.
Yeah we are slowly forced on to IG now but I still love full fledged blogging more!
This is a useful article for brands to understand some basic differences between bloggers and influencers. I feel they each have their own advantages and disadvantages.
Very informative article. I have seen many people in the industry who are not able to differentiate between these. But somehow nowadays there is a very fine line between the terms as many influencers opt for multiple ways to reach their audience
Thanks for clearing doubts of many. Author explained each and everything in detail.
Amazing and beautiful post. Precise and clear description .It is very helpful to know about brands who actually don’t know about how to go into online marketing.
Thanks Humaira. Do share this article to spread the awareness.

True. Do share if you feel this is a good awareness article.
Thanks for clearing that up 👍 a person is a blogfer only uf they own a blog but now a dats theline seems to be blurring ☺️
The line is already blur. We bloggers are getting extinct 😄
This is a great article . Well explained by the author . I am also an influencer
Hey me too. Let’s follow each other. Do share this article if it helps you.
This is a very touchy topic in the Online community. Some people want to call themselves influencers while others don’t. Those who don’t want to be influencers (but they actually are influencing others) are not happy with the stigma attached to the term *Influencer* all because of news media. Anyways, I like the post and you explained it well. Now readers would know the difference and where to look at info when they need at any point of time.
Thank you dear. Do share this if you feel people should know the difference.
True..nowadays anyone who writes in Instagram and posts pics has become a blogger while the real essence of blogging is about writing and not just fancy photo with a promo ad.
Soooooo right you are!!! Do share if you find fit…
